Situated some 80km (50 miles) east of Cape Town, is a valley settled by French Huguenots in the 17th century.
French names abound, both for places and people.
Adjacent to the Huguenot Museum is the striking Huguenot Memorial set amid lovely, peaceful gardens with a background of striking mountains.
Franschhoek features several good restaurants and small shops.
