South Africa

Located in the south-west of South Africa, Cape Town is the country's legislative capital. It is dominated by the stunning flat-topped Table Mountain. Cape Town grew up from the need to service the lucrative trade between Europe and the Indian subcontinent in the 16th and 17th centuries (no Suez Canal in those days). It was variously controlled by the British and the Dutch Nowadays, it is a very pretty city, with modern tower blocks nestling alongside beautiful buildings from the colonial era, together with green parks and the sea front. We found the people to be friendly and cheerful with a positive, forward-looking attitude. They were happy to put themselves out to help visitors.
