Usually describing an area of the Cape's south coast between the cities of Cape Town and Port Elizabeth (although strictly it's just Mossel Bay to Plettenburg Bay), the Garden Route is green and fertile.

There are no 'gardens' as such, just a huge expanse of verdant forests, deep green valleys and lush fields.

Anyone coming from the English countryside may not be as impressed with this part of South Africa because much of the scenery is not so far different from home, but it is very easy on the eye and there are interesting places to visit.

Whales can be seen at Mossel Bay, and the town of Knysna and its lagoon are well worth going to.
