Between the town of Luxor
and the Valley of the Kings stand two enormous seated statues, known as the Colossi of Memnon..
They are
very eroded, but their sheer size makes the visit worthwhile.
Originally
the Colossi or Memnon guarded the Temple of Amenophis III, but nothing remains of
this building.
Unlike most Egyptian tourist
sites, this one is relatively free of hustling salesmen.
